Moyosore Martins Joins Traffic
Moyosore Martins a.k.a. MOYO is a New York-based Nigerian painter, a mixed media and digital artist, also working in graphics, video, motion, and fashion design. There is no medium he won’t put his hands in as his view of creativity has few boundaries.
MOYO’s unique work embodies his vision of the world and is deeply narrative in nature. Whether it’s a large canvas wall hanging, digitally mastered work, or clothing adorned with his design, his creative product embodies his traditional Afro-cultural, spiritual roots and fashion-forward sense of aesthetics.
Born of a Brazilian descendant with both parents from Ekiti state, Nigeria, MOYO developed a sense of mixed cultural independence from his family’s tribal roots and also created a sense of fashion from his travels and upbringing. Inspired by the streets of London and New York, and his college years in Ghana and Ivory Coast, all blended into his artwork while still expressing his Yoruba cultural roots.
MOYO is self-taught and trained. His gift is one of a spiritual nature which first came to him when he picked up a paintbrush and pencil at a young age. His father never allowed him to study art or even create! Instead, MOYO doodled on his notebooks in school and was punished severely, a sign and foreshadowing of his future work. His passion for producing mixed media is seen in his oil paintings, sculptures, digital media, fashion, and product design.
