Fall is Just Around the Corner

As August enters, the minutiae of Autumn begins to show itself in clever ways. While we will be mourning and saying our goodbyes to summer leisure, we welcome the metamorphosis of the seasons, specifically the tranquility and beauty that comes with falls entry.

In New York, a sign of change that is just as organic as the shifting flora and fauna is tradition of "the September Issue". In editorial, publications spend months and weeks prior to September strategizing what is arguably their biggest issue, in both size and influence. Part of this may be the natural need for a refresh and focus when exiting the summer. Think of it as a "Back to School" occasion for grown ups. Consequentially the covers of the September are often extraordinary. Vogue has been seeing lots of publicity recently for their choice to have Rihanna as the first black woman to take the cover of British Vogue.  In a similar fashion, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of US Vogue gave Beyonce not only the cover story of the magazine, but she gave Bey unprecedented control of the magazines composition. This issue will also be the first time a black photographer has shot a cover story for the magazine (better late than never Vogue).

With these issues, its on the inside that counts too. Here is Traffic's forecast on some fashion trends you can expect to see in fall 2018

1. Florals: If Beyonce and Rihanna are wearing it, both on their respective covers of Vogue... odds are you will be wearing it soon as well. The flower crowns they are styling aren't just any (Lana Del Rey-Circa 2012) crown. In Fall 2018, it is all about the choice of flowers, the colors and the arrangement. This seasons look is gothic, perennial and organic arrangements. Beyond headpieces you will this look on the runways of Christian Dior, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and on the more affordable end, you'll see this on the shelves of retailers like Zara and Topshop.

2. Saville Row: Its all about using those english fabrics like Houndstooth and Glen Plaid. An autumn staple for centuries is back in fashion. Found on the runways of Saint Laurent and Fendi to the racks at Target. Shown here is a look from Fendi.

3. Corduroy: As denims styles have become stale recently, corduroy has swooped in its place. Shown below is the BDG Pink Corduroy Cocoon Trousers sold at Urban Outfitters.

4.  Leather: Some call it an 80's redux, others argue that the leather jacket is timeless. This seasons twist is all about exaggerated shoulders and high shine. Photographed is the Patent Leather Biker Jacket from & Other Stories.

5. Shearling: Form and function. Keep yourself warm while wrapped this awesome 70's moment. In the photo is the Faux Shearling Coat from Mango.

The consistent theme here seems to be the play with textures. This Fall we all want to feel something, a theme that arguably extends beyond fashion.
